When you press alt-j on your keyboard, a triangle magically appears. The same is true when you draw two circles-triangles appear in the vesica pisces. The triangle and the three bring both creation and creativity into being. The third leg also stabilizes-as does the wheel. Even in relationship dynamics, it offers an essential perspective on the relationship between the two.
In Astrology, the study of the triangle is also an inquiry into elementals. The 4 elements all trine one another. It is elemental support. Aries trines Leo trines Sagittarius (THE GRAND FIRE TRINE). In a chart, it manifests immense creative capacity. The baseline could be seen as BECOMING, the second line ABIDING, the third which completes the triangle, RETURNING. It is the holiest of trinities. And it shows up everywhere.
Synodic cycles imply three: Sun, Earth, and the planet in question. Take Mercury, for example, one whose name also has the three embedded in it when you refer to him as Hermes Trismegistus “The Thrice Great.” The Mercury synodic cycle is roughly 120 days. 3 divides into 120 and gives us 40; a third of the cycle. We are currently at the end of the first third of Mercury’s cycle which began on July 1st in Cancer. This happens when Mercury falls from the morning sky with all feathers whirring as he travels the other side of the Sun. It is the part of the journey when the Idea or ideas which have claimed us thus far in the cycle begin to travel fresh neural pathways in the brain; they are becoming a part of us. Neurogenesis, in other words, is occurring.
As I write this, Mercury is in Leo. No longer in the sky, applying towards a trine to Chiron at 9 Aries (remember: elemental harmony). This will occur tomorrow on August 9th. When you combine the synodic understanding with the supportive wisdom of Chiron, a wild beast full of illuminating insight bursts from the forest of our minds. Mercury’s message to Chiron is an idea that helps scrape the moss off a buried part of ourselves; Chiron’s teaching to Mercury points into the forest where the beast came from. It’s a helpful exchange, one that will illuminate a forgotten cave within. But only if we are paying attention.
And by the Leo New Moon mid-month, Mercury (along with Mars in Aries) will begin to create the Grand Fire Trine with the Galactic Center and the South Node of the Moon. What does it mean? Well, let’s just make sure we make it there first. And when we do, it will be our job to bring some sort of vision into the world. Depending on where the triforce is shining in our chart will depend on where the “pyramid” will be constructed. In other words, wherever all this fire is burning in us, is totally dependent on where the world is beginning again. In the simplest sense, there is a candle waiting for us; it can light ten thousand others. We just need to find the candle and make sure it doesn’t go out.
Create! It could be the purpose of this life…(at least it is from the perspective of a dancing flame)
