Aztec ‘Great Flood’ Art

In the 9th century, Islamic sky gazer Abu Ma’shar calculated that the rains that brought Noah’s flood began at dawn on Friday the 18th of February 3102 BC. He believed that all five planets known at that time, plus the Sun and Moon, were in the water sign of Pisces. Yet, if calculated with the Tropical Zodiac, they were all in Aquarius.

It’s an interesting calculation and an even more interesting idea to contemplate, though it seems the evidence is overwhelmingly against it these days. More likely, the Great Flood which shows up in many of the world’s mythologies was closer to 12,000 years ago (see: MAGICIANS OF THE GODS by Graham Hancock). There are two Aquarian ideas we can extract from this: 1. Its relationship to water/floods; 2. Its relationship to ideas.

You may be aware there is a Full Moon in Aquarius today. It happens every year. This one is unique in that it squares its modern ruler Uranus. It asks us to turn our gaze towards the periphery, to see what we might be overlooking-or simply ignoring. If we do so, we may be surprised by what we find.

The unavoidable shadow of Aquarius (or the dark side of this Moon) is elevating ideas and ideals over all other considerations and evidence. The aim is not merely to opt-out of, or even destroy the old order, but to replace it with a new and better one. A fine idea, until again, all other considerations are completely ignored. Being concerned more with groups than individuals, its shadow is an expectation for everyone to conform to the zeitgeist, or else. The Aquarian shadow proclaims, “Don’t do as I do: do as I say!” And even though it created science, it can discard it just as fast if it doesn’t fit the narrative. Even though it’s about a better world, it can create a nightmare confined in an echo chamber just as well. The spirit is contagious, it’s novel, it’s exciting, and it can also lack foresight. Great care is needed with all ideas we choose to propagate.

Next is water. The Water-Bearer has many myths attached to it. From Ea to Ganymede and all the unnamed beings who pour life over our heads and into the soils. For our ancestors, this was everything. Without the rains, no crops and life would come to an end. These days, when our food magically appears at our doorstep we may feel disconnected from this correlation, but it’s ever-present regardless. And in a psycho/spiritual sense, one could see the Water-Bearer pouring ideas into the noosphere as well-into the field where Ideas come from. It can be a symbol of infinite potential, invention, and world-saving innovation. All amazing, until it doesn’t rain or when it does, it pours and pours and pours.

My prayer is that under this digitized Full Moon, you question a few of your ideas. Perhaps question those of your group as well. Make some room in there for some better ones to come in. If we are to be good thought farmers, there is weeding to be done. We must always be prepared for the floods of information and the potential for locust swarms. The only way through these feral times is by harvesting the best Ideas, saving the seeds, and sharing them often.

Dare to think for yourself. Question everything.

* On a side note: This Full Moon is illuminating the Nodes of the Moon in Bitcoin’s chart. For all of you who have been involved, I’m sure you are radiant and content at the moment. Bitcoin’s dragon is made of Aquarian bits.
