Endless Things
…On Venus & Father/Son (Saturn/Chiron)
Our culture hates endings. We will do everything to keep the story going, way beyond its bounds, to avoid the abyss looming at the end. If there is to be one, we are infatuated with happy endings; We are helpless romantics when it comes to the final chapters. The bleak-even macabre-endings found in many old fairy tales and myths don’t seem to sit well. We are addicted to it always working out, galloping into the setting sun, yet we also know in the depths of our Soul, through personal experience, our addiction is dangerous. The stiff arm of Saturn almost always gives us an end we weren’t calling in. And it usually hurts in all the right ways. Our culture needs endings, for life to go on.
Today, Venus faces this “stiff arm” with the God who assisted in her salty birth by blade and patricide. Whenever Saturn and Venus oppose one another, we are confronted with the truth of what we love most. If it’s your partner, welcome in the challenge that’s been pending for too long; If it’s money, zoom out, and be more conservative with your dealings; If it’s what you spend most of your time doing, consider siphoning some of that energy into something else for a while. The polarity between Venus and Saturn can be seen as the former being life-giving, the latter life-taking. The agreement they come to always invites in an ending.
Chiron is also involved with our beauty Queen. From 12º Aries, Venus triangulates a warm signal from Leo. The support Chiron offers is the bitter medicine found near the end. He shows that even though it may appear to be over, things have a way of continuing on. Endless things. There is also a clever teaching mechanism the eternal centaur uses, which is by skin walking into people in our lives, offering the medicine that way. Whether we are able to take it is another story altogether.
It’s a day of deep consideration with the Lady of the Western Sky. If you are blessed to catch a glimpse of her in the next few days, have a sweet and serious discussion about endings. Meditate on what Hillman considered the essence of the Christian ethos as well: “It’s Friday but Sunday is coming.” Being that Venus rules Friday, with Saturn’s day in between, that is your hint.
Praise the gorgeous goddess
May the saturnine lessons keep your back straight
not broken
And if your heart feels this way
it’s a good sign
It means you have one
