Fair Enough
On all the business in Libra
“And whoever said the world was fair, little lady? Maybe death is fair, but certainly not life. We must accept the unfairness as proof of the sublime flux of existence, the capricious music of the universe- and go on about our tasks”
― Tom Robbins, Skinny Legs and All
The origin of the word ‘fair’ is Old English fæger which means “pleasing to the sight.” Applied to the weather, it’s more of a pleasant breeze. And in later Old English, it moved its way into the realm of morality, fair and square. In the world of words, anything is fair game. They mutate over time, creating double meanings, subtle implications, and cultural buzz as they are tossed between us. They all have a fair start, yet their destinies could be seen as unfair. These days, many words are being killed off. Fair enough some may say, others, not so much. It’s not fair play.
It’s all these cycles rebooting in Libra that have me tossing fairness from hand to hand. I agree with Tom: death is fair. The rest is a lifelong pursuit of the proper perspective-a balanced one. I’m afraid we are losing that faster than our excitement in going to the fairgrounds requiring a dozen jabs. A balanced perspective creates fair-mindedness, and having a fair mind means having a beautiful mind. Fair weathered consciousness.
Today, there is a New Moon in Libra (Oct.6th). In less than 48 hours, a new Mars cycle begins in Libra. Then, hardly missing a beat, Mercury swoops across the Sun to start his own. In the darkness of each of these beginnings is a fair start. Depending on our own engagement and ability to avoid the “unfair” traps, will result in how victorious we become when their cycles complete.
With the Moon, we shall try to avoid the poles; With Mars, we set off on a two-year-plus journey to find the secret that Parsival learned to know; And with Mercury, we will hopefully do our best to see reality clearly from both sides, choosing neither. It’s a fair beginning, hopefully, devoid of a foul ending.
There is no promise of peace here. No harmony without realizing the limitations of our own perspectives. When it comes to equality, well, that is infinitely subjective. With these three lights being reborn amongst the scales and measuring devices, we should be careful of just how much baggage we are carrying. Our souls will be weighed against a feather one day. We must remember this. Death is always fair.
* Spot Libra in your chart, toss in the transits, and you will see them all there. This is the fulcrum of your fair (beautiful) beginning.
