Note: The following measurements will depend on hand and finger size. If you have small ones like the Red King, adjust accordingly.

It’s a good time to learn some basic sky gazing. With all the drama playing out on Earth and all planets visible in the sky, getting acquainted with these basic measurements will serve as life long skills, and also serve as a useful party trick when you are out on the porch with friends.

Materials needed: A hand with five fingers and a set of eyes. A clear sky is essential as well.

When you point one finger up towards the sky, it serves as 1 degree (1ª) of measurement. If Pluto were visible, you could point your Jupiter finger at the planet which rules that finger, and 1º away would be Pluto in tropical Capricorn.

When you use the holy trinity of three fingers (pointer through ring; Jupiter, Saturn, Venus fingers) you get roughly 5º. Using Jupiter in the sky as the basis of this measurement again, you will see Saturn 5ª away. By the Winter Solstice, they will be right on top of each other.

When applying your fist of solidarity to the sky, you are given 10º. There is nothing in the sky currently a perfect 10 from each other, but it’s a useful one because it represents an entire decan. One fist, ten thousand themes and spirits within that third of a Sign.

When you make the Sign of the Horns (“Heavy Metal Hand”), you get 15ª. If you wake before the sunrise, blast some Tool, and point your “Horns” to the East, and you will get the current distance between Mercury and Venus in Libra.

And finally, when shaking the Shaka at the sky, letting all the Gods know everything is cool, you have nearly a whole sign with 25º. Once the sun is visible on the horizon at sunrise, the distance between it and Venus is your Shaka brah.

Again, hand size is a variable. Have fun with it. Employ these techniques with the current transits and a sky-gazing app like Sky Guide to increase your exploration and comprehension.

Keep your head up. It’s not as bleak in the universe as the newsfeed will have you believe.

Enjoy.
