The story of the day concerns Mars and Saturn. Making the third introductory square to those of the “Boneyard,” they may be touching on some sensitive themes. When traditional malefics are vying for our attention, we must pay close attention. The feel: stiff armed!

Squares invite us to turn in the direction of our peripheral awareness. It’s the content we can sense, somewhat see out of the corners of our eyes, but can only be clearly understood by pivoting 90 degrees and addressing what is there. This dynamic has already occurred with Jupiter and Pluto, today it’s Saturn’s turn. Reality exists in the periphery as well. Saturn says, “It is time to deal with it.” The love of the reaper has arrived.

In John Crowley’s history bending novel AEGYPT, Peirce Moffett, his protagonist in it, declares, “Newton called it gravity, the old magicians called it Love.” Not only is there more than one history to the world, but there are more ways than one to see the Laws of Nature. If we could see gravity as a form of love, why not see the Mars/Saturn influence as a form of it as well.

It is gravity which holds this whole thing together. Gravitational fields created by starlight. Orbiting spheres trying to get closer, yet kept at the perfect distance. With Saturn and Mars, there is no exception. They too are pulled in by this kind of love. And they also relate to one another. When 90 degrees apart, the first feeling is being blocked or held back; the second, the one which requires inquiry and patience, is the feeling of breakthrough.

Life isn’t what we expect. There is always a surprise just around the bend. How we translate these “surprises” separates the victims from the victors along this journey. Don’t play victim when it comes to transits. See them as opportunities instead; not just to get the energy right, but to become reacquainted with these Gods.

Today, even though it’s a Monday (Moon ruled day), Mars and Saturn own the day. Find them in your chart (Aries/Capricorn) and ask them questions about your problems. Likely, whatever is frustrating you is because of a story happening in the periphery.
