.: It’s feral, not wild :.
I was reunited with an old quote from Robert Bly the other day, one which applies to our times more than ever before:
“These aren’t wild times, these are feral times”
The difference between the two is the latter has a past-life of domestication. It creates an entirely different experience than being reared in the wild. It’s more dangerous, more uncertain, uninitiated. Not that the wild is lacking uncertainty, it’s just fully initiated by tooth, claw, and countless missed meals; to be feral is a process of being initiated entirely by the wild while a part of the tissue of memory holds on strong to a cozier past.
These are feral times!
When baby Chiron was shaking in the wilds of Greece after being abandoned by his parents, he looked up. He saw a Mother in the Moon, a Father in the Sun, a blanket in the stars. So they reared him. Taught him everything he needed to get started. How to forage and frolic, hunt and transmute with humor, to track movements-of stars, planets, and prints. Through the Sun he met Apollo, and with the Moon, his sister, Artemis. These surrogate parents exist for all of us, all of the time. Myth reveals these stories to us. But only when properly initiated. The Soul needs a certain amount of scar tissue and freezing cold nights before it reveals such secrets.
Chiron is wild, not feral. We must learn about this process from him. This is one of his greatest teachings.
And just as Mars takes another step into Aries, he takes another towards Chiron as well. Mars is headed for Chiron’s cave-that ‘hero factory’ up on Pelion, that sandalwood infused mecca, the nook of true medicine and fires of Great Remembering. The exact meetup (conjunction) isn’t for a few days, yet it creates a theme for the months ahead.
We are all being educated by Chiron at the moment. Specifically, it is Mars who is being worked on in us…
With #METOO 2.0 in full swing, the 2nd wave of the pandemic cresting on unconvinced populations, and the Red King boiling so much of our blood, may we give ourselves a second chance to look deeply within ourselves to spot the true enemy. I know, we would love for it to be out there, but sadly it’s not. That line between good and evil bleeds a red line through the center of all of our hearts. And what is evil in the end, if not simply a desire to have more than another, to possess each other, to control and have more power. Evil is a state of mind created by Rahu. When it appears, it should be prosecuted and condemned, completely held accountable, yet we must be extra cautious with our generalizations, projections, and undigested stories with it as well.
I would also like to think we live in a world where reconciliation is possible. Sometimes, the trespasses are such that forgiveness seems impossible, yet in most cases, I truly believe it is. Maybe you can give someone in your life a second chance before they go completely feral (in the ‘living on the streets’ kind of way). Chiron did with Hercules. And as Gregory Alan Isacov sings so well, “…if it weren’t for second chances, we would all be alone.”
*Remember to be extra careful of your head as well. That helmet I shared is still available for pre-order.
** Thank you for reading. I truly wish you the best and hope you make contact with Chiron in the coming days.
*** Treat his advice like you would gold.
**** And in no way am I saying that people should not be held accountable for their actions, and deal with the hell that follows when honor is lost. It’s part of the process of healing.
We are in the Times of the Black Jaguar!!!
