(On the relationship between Mars & Venus)

Art by Tomasz Kopera

Just as Venus is losing count of the days in her chapter in the underneath, a letter arrives by raven which reads:

“You arouse in me such a mixture of feelings. I don’t know how to approach you. Only come to me — get closer and closer to me. It will be beautiful. I promise you.” ~ Mars (Henry Miller)

It offers up just enough amorous spirit for her to take another step. She is powered by the currency of longing. Venus moves on. And as she does, Mars continues his chapter with the dragon (Rahu/North Node), trying to find that magic language to lull its hunger, looking for the song deep within his Soul to not defeat the beast, but to tame it, so he can ride it back to his other half. The way it all translates within us will be different but has the common denominator of both longing and the forgotten power of language.

Today, Mars and Venus make a sextile to one another (Mars in Gemini, Venus in Aries). The 60º of separation between the two is close enough for a whisper to be heard in the breeze, yet also far enough for this longing to still stretch our patience. We must be patient. The two will join together once again on July 12th in Leo, which will be a day filled with midsummer celebrations and rolling nights on the stars. Until then, we write letters.

When I think of love letters my mind always goes to Henry Miller and Anaïs Nin first. Their decades of poetic correspondence is well documented and offers both linguistic and erotic inspiration for what is possible. These letters don’t need to be written with the tip of one of Eros’ arrows either, they can be directed at oneself, at God, anywhere needing the loving touch of some well-thought-out words. To write a letter to your future self could quell any anxiety you may have about what’s to come. You could do the same with the past, and break off any stories you may carry riddled with the parasites of regret or the ghosts of doubt.

Tracking the dance between Venus and Mars in the sky is a worthy pursuit. It will teach you much about the phases of life, the ebbs and flows of our connections and inspirations, and of course offer the deepest insight into our love lives. And most importantly, make sure you get outside to allow them to touch your eyes so they can travel deeper into your heart and soul.

* Mars can be seen at dusk and for the few hours after sunset; Venus will return to the West soon enough…

Praise the eternal lovers

Enjoy
