Mature Transcendence
…On Mars in Gemini
In a few days, Mars will swoop into Gemini and spend the next 7 months there (Aug 20th to March 25, 2023). That’s 31 weeks of hot sky gazing at the midnight star. It’s 217 days of testing boundaries, seeing if they are made of steel. 5208 hours of strength training. And, of course, 312,450 minutes of maturing towards transcendence. The reason Mars is going to spend so long here is because of the upcoming retrograde (Oct 30th @ 25º 37' Gemini)
Maturation with Mars has everything to do with cool. If we can’t keep a cool head, we are too hot to handle. If we are susceptible to blowing up, we are definitely not cool. To keep our cool when Mars gets close and bright (for rust) and big (for something 97 million miles away) we must do our practices. Mars loves iron, so we must lift it or pump it and make sure it’s sufficiently built up in our blood. Pushing ourselves beyond our limits is how we get stronger and how life becomes easier. If we don’t, then our limits will not only push us, but they could even break us.
The Mars-ruled botanical bard Terence McKenna once mused, “We can change ourselves no faster than our language.” A Gemini theme to consider as we identify the chains around some of our ideas and words: Do we break them or allow them to shackle our minds? Vulgarity corresponds here. If our tongue is a catapult for f-bombs and various cuss words, it may be a consideration to save our ammo for more meaningful moments like the accidents which may befall us in the coming months. Cultivating such an awareness around how words can be weapons is a part of the maturation process. We change swiftly with the right language. We may even transcend on those rare occasions.
If you are scared by this upcoming retrograde, you may be following the wrong astrologers. Fear has its place, but not here. It takes a whole lot of calories to hold up a shield or to prepare your duck and dodge from malefic influences in the coming months. What if those calories were saved and used to train instead? On the surface of Mars has the largest visible valley in our Solar System. Called Valles Marinas, it stretches for thousands of miles and is nearly as deep as Everest is high; it looks like an angry god took a swipe at the planet and turned it red. We stare at this scar wondering what the story was. The same is true with our own scars. They all have a story to tell. We survived them all, just as we will with the possible lacerations in the coming months.
It’s going to take Mars 18,748,800 seconds to make it to Cancer. In other words, we don’t have our mothers to call or cradle us for this. It’s between us and our inner pansy. If we learn to converse here and take control, transcendence is guaranteed. This is the secret of Mars in Gemini.
