.: Pan is not dead :.
There is an old story from the early 1st century A.D involving an Egyptian sailor, a disembodied voice, and breaking news.
It is said, that Thamus (our sailor) was en route to Italy when he heard a ‘divine’ voice ripple across the waters say, “The Great God Pan is dead.” Welcomed news for the Roman Emperor of the time, heart-wrenching for everyone else. The wild god was already fading, but now, supposedly, gone for good.
This tiny story has giant implications. Many regard this moment as the final gear clicking in the Aion from the Age of Aries into the Age of Pisces. And ever since, we have been adrift on the River Lethe, being promised salvation in some form, becoming amnesiacs to our true lineage and what we really are: wild and wise and of the natural world, not separate from it. Yet, here we are, trying to remember, questioning everything, waking up just as the gears click into place for the next epochal shift into Aquarius (more on this in the future).
…on a walk in the moor
I heard a voice ripple through the grasses as well
it said, “Pan is not dead. He never died.”…
Today, the sweet lady of the sea who always smells of rosemary makes strong aspects to both the rulers of Pisces (Venus opposite Neptune, trine to Jupiter). A rare configuration and one we should try to tune our hearts to in this hostile catharsis we find ourselves in.
Whenever Venus and Neptune grace the presence of each other, there is a shimmering invitation into the imagination; Whenever she and Jupiter have a moment, he provides the faith to jump right in.
One way of tracking these movements is by looking for hoof prints. If Pan is not dead, what is? Our imaginations, maybe, but not the Gaian Mind. Through the Age of Pisces, we have slowly traded synthesis for analysis-wholeness for divisions. The idea of a therianthrope God being real (ever) is a ridiculous idea to most, yet why was he so revered for hundreds, if not thousands of years. Were all of our ancestor’s loons or flying over the cuckoo’s nest? Doubtful. We have simply forgotten. There is more than one history of the world.
To think of Neptune as imagination is helpful. It is underused, manipulated, and said to be full of fancy. But is it just an interesting part of Mind, or is there more? Does it have limits? Where are the boundaries? Does it ever stop or does it go on forever? And what is our role to play with it?
Some may say, especially from the time of Christ (our Pisces avatar), that God created us in His image, meaning we are brothers and sisters and walk as equals alongside Him. If God can create worlds, why can’t we? We have imagination. We have language. We have hands. Why can’t we create a better world? It’s been done before, why not now?
Well, we can. This is what Venus is helping us remember today in her piscean contemplations and conversations.
