Shadow Planets

On the Taurus Lunar Eclipse

Art of Kurbatoff Art Gallery

The dragon hole is close. In just over 24 hours, the shadow planets (Rahu & Ketu) will catch up to the luminaries and swallow them. This happens every 6 months, yet it’s always wise to pay attention, having a safe route of travel through the space between eclipses. This one, the eclipse to open the window to the night, finds itself in the jaws of Rahu, and its shadow will be seen all across the Americas, with east Asia and Australia and those along the Greenwich timezone as well. It’s a partial lunar eclipse in Taurus (27º14') and it seems keen to help us understand the nature of the shadow better, and also, the elusive, yet essential power of forgiveness.

In India, the Nodes of the Moon are considered ‘shadow planets.’ Tampering with the light of both Sun and Moon is logically where the name is derived, but there is also the Jungian shadow to consider as well. Eclipse’s and their shadows have a way of changing our stories. This usually occurs with some foray into the shadowlands of the tales we tell. Jung once said, “How can I be substantial if I do not cast a shadow? I must have a dark side also If I am to be whole.” I’m afraid there are too many among us who feel differently. They don’t understand the nature of the shadow and how it intimates what it is we despise. The brighter the flame, the darker the shadow. We see this more and more often with the stars we used to emulate. We see not only that they are human, but often, living other lives as well in the shadows. Shady business. Something we are all well aware of inside ourselves.

Being that this eclipse occurs on Rahu (NN) it will also bring us close to our insatiable appetite for something. It will reveal the story we are trying to write, showing our frothy fascination and our flurry of fears around it. Wherever it falls in our chart a shadow will be cast by the head of a dragon with its teeth in the Moon. Should you be concerned? Scared? Overly prepared? Not exactly. We should be aware. We should always use the information the sky reflects down to us as the mirror it is for the work needing to be done in our inner skies. Again, eclipses change our stories. It’s hard to predict how exactly, but we know it will happen in late Taurus, in the proximity of those seven sisters, and if we have planets there, that’s where we need to consider constellating the themes they will bring.

Whenever our story is ready for a twist, something-or someone-will need to be forgiven. Forgiveness is the act that allows us to not only move on but to grow new life. Without it, the dragon lays dark eggs in our shadow, and when they hatch, we know because we may feel vengeful, jealous, or lost. We must forgive if the skin is to fully come off. A theme to be continued with the next eclipse on the tail of the dragon on December 4th.

Be safe out there. Don’t gawk at the eclipse like the Red King. This one may not be bad for your eyes, but it’s still a portal. And if our eyes are windows to the Soul, we must be careful about what we let in.

Enjoy
