There is a flurry all around us. Out of the fertile darkness of this Gemini New Moon, Venus and Mercury are trading places in the West-also in Gemini. If Gemini were a bird, it would have to be the humming. And if the flaps of those wings could be counted, they would equal the number of questions we have at the moment. We must try to keep our Beginner’s Mind intact in this flurry with magical ideas ready to leap off our tongues in a moment’s notice.

Gemini is the Twins, yes, but which twins and what can they teach us?

They are known as the Dioscuri. Their names are Castor and Pollux and are children of Zeus and Leda. Born from an egg as a result of their father’s swan-cloaked seduction, Pollux the immortal, Castor the mortal, they eternally teach us the secrets of horse whispering and the importance of healthy competition. Protectors of the home and also our travels, these divine twins are also always trading places. No different than our vacillating positions between spirit and body, the heavenly and the profane. being immortal and dangerously mortal, the two are rumored to switch between being mortal and immortal. It is these two who point to all polarity and paradox in our lives. Something we are dangerously surrounded by at the moment.

Let’s pretend Venus falling from the sky in her retrograde motion is Castor, moving into the mortal coil of human folly. It is in this phase of her cycle where we are reminded of all of our hearts trespasses and the dusty mirrors of our past and present. Those old flames flicker wyrdly in these times, showing us how far we have come, preparing us for what is next.

And if Venus is role-playing Castor, then Mercury must be Pollux rising in the weightless West, revealing the power of Ideas. Ideas, language, symbols, story, are all immortal and they are all magic. The sooner we realize this, the sooner we become magicians. It is in this phase of the Mercury Cycle where the Ideas which claimed us at the beginning (late Feb) have all hatched and taken to the air. They whistle like the hummingbird, sipping a lovely variety of nectar and pollinating the world at the same time.

The two are trading places. Not too different than the old tale of Castor and Pollux. Being this is happening in the darkness of this New Moon we are gifted with a wondrous opportunity to change our minds about something forever. You know what it is…right? If you don’t, just locate Gemini in your chart, mix it with some sugary liquid, and let the hummingbird feed on it a bit, then pollinate your world with its translation.

Let’s tune our ears to the Language of Birds.
Praise Venus and Mercury
And cultivate a new relationship to what comes out of our mouths this lunation.
May you find Grail Speech!

Keep it wyrd,
Adam
