The Essential Dignity of Love (Venus square Saturn)
When two planets are domicile (at home; in their own signs), yet square one another, who gains the upper hand? It’s a situation we have from a couple of angles these days: One from Mars/Saturn, the other Venus/Saturn. And today, it is Venus/Saturn who make the square; Venus in Libra, Saturn in Capricorn.
There are many ways to approach this abrasive dilemma. Sect being one of them, planetary direction or speed another, even phase could be considered to understand who has more influence in the sky. Or, we could simplify it, consider what Ficino felt to be true, and say that Venus overcomes all, no matter the considerations. In other words: Love always transcends.
Now, I am completely aware of this oversimplification, yet I’m also keen on its truth. No matter what circumstances Saturn is weighing us down with, money woes, relational strife, lead poisoning, covid, melancholy, a dark streak of bad luck, there is nothing under the Sun-or the ‘black sun’-love cannot remedy. No-thing!
So when Venus contemplates her descent from the morning sky in her own sign of Libra and squares the old miser, her touch can immediately exalt our perspective of him, seeing Saturn like many Renaissance wizards did, as the one closest to heaven-the one who holds all of life together, keeping it in motion by his own unique expression of love.
Plato felt that true love is admiration. Applied from Venus to Saturn, she melts in warm ecstasis when studying the lines on his face, at his deliberate pace, and finds home in his undying wisdom. She admires him, so she loves him. Without his scythe, she would have never been born.
And he wells up every time she touches him. Too cold is his life on the outside, constantly exploring the inside. Every touch, no matter how brief, by a square, an opposition, conjunction, or bi-quintile, is a cherished moment to feel alive again. His studious contemplations and constant work often making him forget what’s most important. She remedies this. Because of her fertile grace, he admires her.
Now, for us, the challenge always is in listening and allowing these mythic stories to play out in us as well. It doesn’t matter where this is happening in your chart or what other aspects it makes, as long as you are deep in admiration. It’s how love sustains and is reborn again and again; it’s how we learn from nature; it’s one of the reasons we listen to music, take in art, go dancing, make love. True love really is admiration.
So…what do you admire?
Plato was onto something. It’s also remediation for any hard aspect. Beautify her temple. Relax. Enjoy. Get out of your head…and into your heart. Such is the invitation from Venus, always.

Adam
