The Great Divide

On the happenings in Libra

Art by Oleg Ryzhkov

When it comes to dreams, we usually don’t pay much attention. They are about as tangible as the breeze, and for many, there is no memory at all. For those who do remember, who take their dreams seriously, writing them down, sharing them, attempting to capture messages from the other world, decoding those liminal secrets, they are the inspiration we need right now.

There is a great divide that seems to be growing in size. On one side, we find the materialists, those who are convinced by the illusions of this world, and on the other side, we find those who question the material, those who are paying heed to their dreams and subterranean intuitions. Between the two there is no bridge. Some even want to keep building walls instead of bridges to solve the problem. The only communication between the sides is by shouting (or tweeting) for it is the only way to hurl a message across the growing divide. It’s a frightening puzzle of polarity.

The sky tells a similar tale. With the Sun scaling down slowly to its equinox (Libra), Mars now in Libra readying himself for yet another synodic journey, and Mercury investigating the shadow of what’s to come with his retrograde in Libra as well, it is clear what must be done. We must become like Parzival and walk between the sides. We must become interested in the middle path, and assist in building bridges from down below, from the underneath where Soul settles and waits. Our conscious minds may not allow for any of this, but in our dreams, where our Soul speaks and carries medicine from the abyss, there is a piece to the puzzle waiting, protected by a coiled serpent.

There’s an old Jewish tale about a man named Eisek who has a dream that tells him to leave everything behind and travel to this extraordinary bridge, under which he will find a great treasure. The first time it came, he paid little mind to it. The second time he had the dream though, he shared it with some friends. They told him he was crazy. But the third time was the charm, so he did what the dream said, leaving everything behind and headed for the bridge. When he finally came to the bridge of his dreams he had worn his soles bare and he was barely recognizable to himself. Unfortunately, the bridge was guarded day and night, and there was no way to see if this great treasure was where his dreams said it was. One day, as he was loitering near the bridge, a guard approached him and asked what he was up to. Eisek told him of his dream and the guard laughed then told him of a dream he once had of a treasure to be found under a stove in the house of a man named Eisek miles West of there. He laughed some more about the impossible odds of finding such a treasure, in that there must be ten thousand Eisek’s in that town out West. Eisek smiled and bowed and walked back home to dig up the treasure beneath his stove. He then built a beautiful temple on those hallowed grounds.

I share this story for two reasons:

1. Our destiny is found only by following our dreams

2. Socializing is what keeps the Psyche on track

When we share our stories we not only realize our shared humanity but often discover the missing pieces to our own story. We need each other. It’s time to build bridges with the remains of our politics and the disassembled parts of our weaponry. Without the bridge, the shouting across the great divide will only get louder, and more intense conflicts will be inevitable. Mars guarantees it.

Let us pay more attention to our dreams than the news. Let’s try to listen to another perspective without being triggered, for once. To survive this Libran chapter we’ve entered, there is no other way.
