The Sovereign Heart

…on the Venus shadow

unknown artist

Studying shadows is a worthy pursuit for anyone trying to have a complete understanding of a subject. In my last piece, I wrote about the ‘shadow planets’ Rahu and Ketu; In this one, we will keep an eye on what is called the pre-shadow. It occurs just before a retrograde of a planet. It’s essentially when the planet in question begins to travel the degrees it will revisit during its retrograde. It’s a nuanced study, but worthy of our attention. And at the moment, we are in the pre-shadow of the upcoming Venus retrograde in Capricorn (Nov 17-Dec 19th; 11–26º Cap).

To think of the pre-shadow as a prelude is helpful. It’s an introduction to the themes which will become more obvious once Venus stations and begins to fall from the western skies. Themes of the heart are obvious, but the ways in which they emerge are not. We can expect shifts in how we desire to spend our time, energy, and money. Changes of heart. Old loves appearing in the wyrdest of ways. We look in dusty mirrors and see how much we have changed. Twin flame garage sales are common. It’s a time that intimates-especially being in Capricorn-at our relationship to the sovereignty of our hearts. When the Goddess comes close, this is tested.

A quote from Rumi could be helpful here:

“Would you become a pilgrim on the road of love? The first condition is that you make yourself humble as dust and ashes.”

No matter how certain we are, our hearts can always change. Love will grind us all into a fine ash. Venus did it to Psyche, why in the world would she not do it to us. We must prove ourselves worthy. We must never forget the source of the feeling that keeps us in love. If we are truly a pilgrim on the ‘road of love’ we have experienced it all, and the hope is that we are still on this road, not checked out in a bar alongside it. Love will make us despair. The Goddess can devour all our good senses, tempting us to turn back down the dark alleys of our “past” lives. Love, ultimately, is what makes us human, keeps us living, and makes us want more. Without it, all that remains is politics.

It is from now until the beginning of 2022 when the cycle officially begins (Jan 8th; 18 Cap; right next to Pluto until Jan 29th SD) that we get to comb out all our heartstrings that have knots and snags or frayed ends on them. This translates to people in our lives that have served their purpose, the places that have done the same, and the communities we no longer fit in. If we do this work consciously with the Goddess by our sides, something truly vital will sprout from the toughest part of our hearts, showing us the hope of new life, new love, and a new look on our sovereign hearts.

The Venus pre-shadow is nothing to fear, unless you hate previews, and prefer to be unprepared for the next turning of this lovely wheel.

Enjoy
