.: The Virgo Work :.
We love to make demands of Fortuna. Whether aware of the Goddess of not, we complain about our fate over drinks, kick the dirt after losing a fortune, and declare God (or the Gods) to be dead when Ka’s wind blows us into unsavory chapters in life. And even if you don’t believe your life to be woven by the Wyrd, you still have Free Will to choose to meet the unknown at least halfway. This is the Virgo work.
According to many, the Woman of Virgo is Fortuna (Gr. Tyche). Daughter of Jupiter, distributer of the contents of the Horn of Plenty, the rudder of the Wyrd Road; She is Lady Luck. Whether you believe in luck or not, it’s important to know she’s there. Because even when crafting your own luck, you are still borrowing time from somewhere mysterious. Having this awareness while crafting is the Virgo Work.
At the moment, both the Sun and Mercury are in Virgo. Up north, if you’re sensitive and paying attention, the bird songs change their tune a bit and there is a preemptive strike of Fall in the air-an undertone of dead leaves and colder dawns. It is when we hope to find the cornucopia gushing with abundance, not empty, and placed on our heads like we are a part of a confederacy of dunces. We hope Fortuna’s Wheel has set a true course for us and we are able to show up where we can. So we surrender and while we wait, we keep the house in good order. Whether we are descending or ascending on the Great Wheel, we accept its direction. This too is the Virgo Work.
Now, when Mercury is in Virgo his cloak is clean, the inkwell full, and his mind feels exalted (this is the term Ptolemy used). The fact Mercury is also getting comfortable in the evening sky, we can expect some of the Ideas which have claimed us since early July to be jumping from the nest; We can expect synthesis and synchronicity to guide us in and around the battlefield where Mars is preparing from his chariot, discussing strategy over tea with Krishna. When Mercury is in Virgo, at this part of the cycle, we should ‘think’ we have control over our lives even if it’s only around the simple choice of whether we practice or not. This is Virgo work.
The recent Pisces Full Moon reflected these themes beautifully down to earth. A reminder that trust is a form of love-as is surrender. Yet, the hardest lesson for the Virgo in all of us is to just let go. Nobody knows really what is going on. Just let go. Nobody has all the answers. Just let go. Nobody can help you reconnect with your own inner mysteries. So, just let go. When we can widdle it all down to the breath and the activity at hand, we immerse fully, we burn completely, we lose track of all our existential questions. We just are. We find radiant contentment while harvesting alongside the Goddess in the fields of Aion. This is the Virgo Work of a lifetime. Accepting cycles…oOo
