The Way Out & In

We are in it. Eclipse season is changing the air and soon we will have our biannual encounter with dragons. That’s not to say dragons aren’t always around, protecting your favorite spot or breathing flames somewhere in your life, but it’s with eclipses we see them messing with the lights. It’s a miraculous time, yet it’s also a time to be watching carefully with all three eyes.

The first eclipse of the season will be on May 26th. It will be a Total Lunar Eclipse at 5º25' Sagittarius visible throughout the Pacific and deep into the continents on its shores. Occurring on the South Node of the Moon (Ketu) we will be lured into the depths of an old story that is still playing out in us. Whether we learn to retell this story is another matter. It’s never easy to change the course of a mighty river, yet it can be done. We can dig out new channels and tributaries if we are properly motivated to do so. Yet, what motivates each of us is quite different. Let’s pray it’s a dragon tale worth telling for years to come.

The second of the season will be on June 10th. It’s an Annular Solar Eclipse at 19º47' Gemini and will be visible in most of the higher latitudes throughout the northern hemisphere. This one occurs on the North Node of the Moon (Rahu). It will stir up an insatiable hunger in us, one whose thoughts resemble the wings of a hummingbird. The novelty factor with North Node eclipses is subtle yet important to point out. If Ketu eclipses tend to bring up our old stories, Rahu ones ignite the desire for new ones. Wherever it falls in your chart, you will find a well-read dragon there waiting to inform you about the amount of learning you still have to do. Exciting, yes, but overwhelming for certain.

There is a symbol as well for this lunar eclipse that’s informative. For the eclipse on the 26th it reads: A pair of shoes with live wings on each (6 Sag; Chandra). Hermes! Puer Aeternus! Youthful folly. It speaks to our lofty goals and flights into the imaginal, how we live in our alternate worlds, these digital domains, yet sometimes forgetting to allow the roots to pierce the soil beneath our feet. It warns us of the dangers of Air, and also tempts us to fly a little further into the unknown. It’s a symbol to offer us another layer in understanding the dragon who appears along the Gemini/Sagittarius axis, one that always requires a fact-checker, that grounded friend, and an open enough mind for it to be changed with the right evidence.

All in all, we are carefully stepping into chaos, which is a good thing. Chaos is the baseline of reality. And when eclipses come around every six months, the only guarantee is a plot twist. Don’t be scared. Stay glued to the story. Keep turning the pages. It’s just starting to get interesting. Who knows, you may have a dragon as a pen pal by the end of this.

Enjoy
