.: This is it :.
I’ve been eyeing this day for years.
Knowing the context of uncertainty and seeing the graffiti on the walls, it’s clear something even bigger is simmering through the neurons of the collective mind. With cluster moments like in the next 24 hours where one planet peaks (Mars) and another plays peek-a-boo (Mercury), we must be clear as a tiger’s eye on the stalk about what we are doing.
By end of the day tomorrow, Mars will have reached the penultimate moment in his synodic cycle, becoming the brightest and reddest he will be until 2035 (opposite Sun). In that same window of time, Mercury will have stationed retrograde in Scorpio (12º rounded up; Ruled by none other than Mars and will station direct the day of the election). This confluence of Rx “medicine” will express differently in all of us, yet will work on the same parts of our being: The Will & The Mind.
In alchemy, salt, sulfur, and mercury are the building blocks of life alongside the four elements. Salt being the form, sulfur the magical substance moving through it, and mercury, the elusive spirit or the pneuma which coats it all. The body, the mind, and the spirit. And the goal of the alchemist isn’t to turn actual lead into gold, but instead to transmute the heavy dross and melancholy of the human experience into the restorative light of the Sun. To secure our spot in the center of the circle. To find radiant contentment with our circumstances. We aren’t ‘puffers,’ we are the prima materia.
To see Mercury as the spirit is essential. So is thinking of it as the metal. It’s been said that Mercury flows through our bodies, reflecting everything in and outside of it. It keeps the Soul enshrined and the body moving. It is the stuff of Mind. When the planet goes retrograde, the way the substance moves and mirrors shifts in tricky ways, making room for many riddles to be solved. I like to think of these riddles as MRI’s-or, Mercury Retrograde Interventions.
It’s my guess, lots of the MRI’s in the coming weeks will relate to Mars. In our frustration, we forget to look both ways. In our hot-headedness, we feel others become cold. In our rage, we leave clues at the scene of the crime. Now, it’s not all bad. If Mars was the tiger within us, we would know that she purrs more than she growls, yet her environment is being destroyed and she may even be pacing a cage at the moment.
So what is the way through?
Find new territory to roam. Show your claws if you need to, but avoid using them at all costs. Use your stripes. Find a good swimming hole with a mighty tree close by to lounge in. Stay fed if you can. Run. Climb. Swim. Sleep. Make love. Move. Mars needs movement-often, to the point of exhaustion. He must be trained.
In other words, the atmosphere is filled to capacity with volatile agents. Much of this has gotten into us. With the magi stirring the mercurial soup in another direction, tricks are to be expected. So before we use our claws or teeth, ask the question: What is it that you are trying to show me, Mercury? I’m paying attention. I’m listening. This is how we learn.
*Find them in your chart. You will spot them in the Mars-ruled signs of Aries/Scorpio. Ask questions. Make connections. Give libations. And pray.
** Consider Uranus as well, opposing Mercury in the sky.
