Trickster Medicine
(On Mars in Gemini)
Behind what is impossible to understand lives a grinning trickster. The logical mind collapses when it tries to figure out its stories. Our moral compass spins as if caught in the Bermuda Triangle. Any fight for justice gets terribly lost in halls of mirrors and confused by some inane cosmic giggle. One could argue that we live in trickster times.
Lewis Hyde once said, “tricksters make the world right.” A statement that implies what we don’t understand, what seems unfair or unjust, may just be trickster medicine. In the language of Astrology, we look to Mercury when the trickster comes up-we expect him to be retrograde even, but he isn’t the center of this piece, Mars is.
Mars moved into Mercury’s sign of Gemini today. It’s a space populated currently by a dragon (Rahu, the head of this nodal beast). The excess of information the two will bring as they come together will be enough to make us pass out. Already since the ingress of Rahu into Gemini in June of 2020 it’s been a stunning study into the nature of the 1st amendment, how information should be treated in the digital age, and who to actually trust with our delicate ears. Mars, likely, is going to ignite this narrative for even more headlines and international eyes to see.
In the pulsing center of Mars lives desire. From this place the will shoots out like a flaming arrow. When it is thwarted, frustration is felt. And when frustration isn’t dealt with properly, the temperature rises into anger. If anger isn’t released at this critical point, the darker forces of resentment and hatred begin to fester like cancer. For many of us, we are already teetering at this critical point. It may be wise to contemplate the ancient, yet perennial words of Socrates spoken at the market: There is so much here that I don’t want.
So, as you are scrolling your feed after skimming through my writing here, try to apply this wisdom. As you are dealing with the hot prickles of Mars, always remember to take a few cooling breathes before you blow your top. And most importantly, remember there is a realm of influence and a realm of concern in our lives. We should spend most of our time with the former. We can do very little to make changes in the ‘lockdown’ from the latter.
On an inspirational note, Mars in Gemini supplies us with the ample fuel to go after ideas we find worthy of pursuit. Great for research and offers wonderful mileage with writing projects. Nothing is inherently good or bad. It’s all relative. This is the wisdom of Gemini. It is also the bitter truth discovered with trickster medicine.
